In February 28, 2018 my mother Bertha de Munoz lost her battle against ALS. It was not always easy to look into her eyes and pretended that everything was OK. We, her family, husband, kids, grandchildren, daughters and son in laws were there for her and with her, but we could not stop feeling that our hearts were breaking into pieces as we saw how this illness was taking her from us every day. Every time I think of my mom I remembered a strong, caring and independent woman but I also remembered how these terrible conditions took her. My brother was able to bring her from our country to the USA to give her a better life and she was able to spend 11 beautiful and unforgettable months with us. All that thanks to God and to ALS Florida. We know that there is a no known cause or cure for this terrible condition but we can make sure awareness, fund raising and researches continues to find the cure.
Why We Need Your Help
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to provide help and hope today!
