Recently, my brother-in-law and best friend, Les, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Everyone who knows Les knows he is as tough as they come, evidenced by working 39.5 years in CSX's railyards and on their tracks. Les is also kind, compassionate, and humble. But ALS doesn't care. 

ALS  is a terrible disease that ravages its victims. It is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. 

Over the past two years, there have been significant advancements in ALS research and improved access to care for individuals affected by the disease. Legislation has also been enacted to enhance the quality of life for ALS patients and their families.

But there is much more work to be done. The journey to finding a cure starts with each one of us. We invite you to join us in walking or consider sponsoring us. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of people affected by ALS.
