Team Walking for Bob is BACK for another year of family, fun and fundraising for the Kansas City Walk To Defeat ALS®! We walk in memory of Bob Swercinski, our beloved father and friend who lost his battle with ALS (otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's disease) in 2003. Each year we're more and more encouraged by your continued support of this cause and by the amazing advancements towards a cure that the ALS Association & the Walk help fund. The ALS Association is the only national non-profit that is fighting this disease and working to better the lives of local ALS patients every day.
Our team is committed to this event to spread awareness of ALS and to support people in our local community affected by this disease. Please consider joining our team in the Walk to Defeat ALS® or choose a team member from the list and donate to our cause! We appreciate all of the love and support we've received over the years and hope to see some new faces joining us this year - THANK YOU!!
About ALS
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $200,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
