The Walk to Defeat ALS raises funds to support those affected by ALS and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure. Progress has been made in all areas!
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
My dad, the most good hearted and loyal and reliable person ever, was diagnosed and passed within 2 years. The ALS OC chapter was on speed dial for me, and the calls never stopped since ALS progresses fast. I’m so grateful for the resources and equipment they provided and the support they offer to so many caregivers, patients and families (like us). It’s why I still stay involved, fundraise, and volunteer with them. I see newly diagnosed patients often. We share, learn, laugh, cry, and continue to fight for a cure. Also, the money raised towards this chapter is mostly for patient care and research, barely any for operations or marketing.
If you (and family) are in OC, come walk and learn and have fun with us on Nov 12 and / or feel free to donate if you’d like . With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
