2023 is the 13th year our team, ‘Marty’s Party’ has participated in the annual Walk to Defeat ALS. In those 13 years, your support has had and continues to have a very positive impact on the lives of individuals and their families who live with this debilitating disease.
The ALS Association is committed to making ALS a livable disease for everyone, everywhere, until a cure is found. That means continuing to support research in the search for new treatments, while advocating with our legislators on behalf of the community and improving access to the critical care people with ALS and their families need regardless of where they live.
In the first half of this year, the FDA approved tofersen to treat SOD1 ALS, marking the second approved treatment in less than a year, and the third in six years! Additionally, three new Certified Treatment Centers of Excellence™, have been added, enhancing quality of life for people with ALS and supporting families impacted by the disease.
Although research progress continues to be made in the effort to develop treatments and find a cure, much work remains toward those goals.
Until this disease is eradicated, ALS patients and their families will continue to depend on the resources of the ALS Association to help provide services such as loaner medical equipment, respite care for caregivers, educational materials and support groups.
The support you have given in the past has made a tremendous difference in the lives of not only Marty and our family but also in the lives of all patients served by the TN Chapter of the ALS Association.
Please consider continuing your support again this year so those who are still fighting this disease will have the resources of the ALS Association available to them. Your donation will help ensure the continuation of the programs used by ALS patients and families on a daily basis.
Mark your calendar and plan to join our team at the 2023 Walk to Defeat ALS. This year all teams will participate in the middle TN walk to be held at Woodmont Hills Church of Christ located at 3710 Franklin Pike, Nashville, TN, on Saturday, October 21. Registration will begin at 9:00am and the Walk will start at 10:00am. The Walk distance is 1 mile. Activities should conclude around noon.
We look forward to seeing you on October 21!
A look at history –
84 years ago on July 4, 1939, Lou Gehrig gave his "Luckiest Man" speech and brought international attention to ALS. His legacy continues to raise ALS awareness and support in the search for a cure.
