Our husband/brother/son/friend was diagnosed in May of 2013. Nathan Ashley developed weakness in his left foot beginning in February 2013. He went to multiple doctors and had multiple scans to figure out what was happening. It wasn't until May and a visit to Vanderbilt that he got his first diagnosis of ALS. To confirm the diagnosis, Nate and his wife Kathleen traveled to Baltimore to see Dr. Maragakis at John Hopkins. Unfortunately the diagnosis was confirmed and our family's mission to defeat ALS began.
Nathan spent 5 years fighting this awful disease. He literally gave it everything he had. By the end of his life he was on a ventilator and feeding tube. He had no control over any voluntary muscle in his body, even his eyes were too weak to communicate using his eye-gaze enabled computer. He depended on Kat to communicate and care for him.
On January 31, 2018, God answered our prayers and restored Nathan's body. Nathan fought a long 5 year battle and is now walking in heaven with a new body.
Even though he is no longer on this Earth with us, we will continue to raise funds for ALS research in his memory.
The ALS Association was an integral partner during our journey. They offered services as well as financial and emotional support. Please help us support the ALS Assocation in providing continued support for other families dealing with this life altering disease.
Thank you for helping us reach our fund raising goal! Together we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Our team is committed to raising money to support people in our community with ALS and spread awareness of the urgency to find treatment and a cure. Please consider joining our team in the Walk to Defeat ALS® or choose a team member from the list and donate to our cause.
