ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. There is no cure for ALS yet. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with the disease, and someone passes away from it.
ALS has affected our family. On November 11, 2022, Chris was diagnosed with ALS. It was a devastating diagnosis. Our world was turned upside down and all our plans for the future came to an abrupt halt. The ALS Association was there for us in the early days of the diagnosis when we were lost and didn’t know what to do next. They continue to be support for Chris and I as we navigate through the unknown.
On October 20, 2024, in Madison, WI there will be a Walk to Defeat ALS. This event is the #1 way to unite and fundraise for those living with ALS. Each year, fundraising through the Walk allows the ALS Association to continue their mission on working towards a cure and helps support other families that are affected by this devastating disease.
My family has created Team Lippy (Chris’ Alliant Energy nickname, a job he loved and had to give up), please join our team and walk with us or donate to our team so that we can work towards our goal to cure ALS and help support others who are going through the everyday impact of this disease.
ABOUT ALS
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to provide help and hope today!
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
That’s why we’re participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS. To bring hope. To raise awareness. To provide resources and services to families free of charge. To help unlock the mystery of ALS and find the key to treatments and a cure. Will you join us?
