Team Nancy is participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS Lexington, KY on August 24, 2024. We walk in memory and to honor Nancy, our beautiful wife, sister, aunt, and friend who lost her fight with ALS in August 2022. Our goal is to assist others with the disease and to help insure that someday no one else will hear the words, "You have ALS." Together we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by ALS. Our team is committed to raising money to support people in our community with ALS and spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure. Please consider joining our team in the Walk to Defeat ALS®, or you may choose a team member from the list and donate to our cause, and please pray for a cure.
ABOUT ALS / Why We Need Your HELP
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, always fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the person (and robbed Nancy) of his or her ability to walk, move, hold their head up, speak, swallow, eat, drink, chew, and breathe. Their minds ... the ability to think is not affected. Most often it takes up to a year to be diagnosed. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. Many, including Nancy, lose their fight in less time.
ALS can strike anyone. Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries. Presently in roughly 90% of cases there is no known cause of the disease, and it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. There is no cure. Current treatments can only slow progression by a few months.
That’s why we’re participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS. To bring hope. To raise awareness. To provide resources and services to families free of charge. To help unlock the mystery of ALS and find the key to treatments and a cure. Will you join us? Thank you.
