DuPage Habitat for Humanity

Green Initiative

DuPage Habitat is determined to become a leader in “green” building. We are working with industry experts to ensure that we provide affordable and sustainable homes for our families. Through an ongoing partnership with the College of DuPage, and aided by expert input from ComEd, Kouba-Cavallo and Associates, Nicor, Planning Resources, The Conservation Foundation, and others, DuPage Habitat is balancing up-front, cost-conscious development with long-term, environmentally-conscious decisions. The 27 townhomes that will be constructed on Greenbrook Court in Hanover Park will be built to LEED standards.

In addition, in July 2011, DuPage Habitat opened our ReStore at 869 S. Rohlwing Road in Addison. DuPage Habitat ReStore accepts donated new and gently used home improvement items, and then sells them to the public at greatly reduced prices. All profits from DuPage Habitat ReStore sales fund the DuPage Habitat mission. Habitat ReStores are in operation in over 600 communities nationally. The average ReStore diverts over 150 tons of usable materials from landfills annually.
