Less than three months ago, a dear friend of mine, Gabe Pressman was in the UK on his latest galavant around Europe. After being diagnosed with Stage Four kidney cancer only twelve months earlier, he was doing all he could to squeeze every ounce out of life, taking the opportunity to travel far & wide and spend time with his loved ones.
Despite every sign that the cancer was in remission, things took a tragic turn and he passed away on October 13th. His death happened all too soon and along with his friends and family, I am still coming to terms with the loss. I will always remember Gabe as a loyal, kind, compassionate, funny, spontaneous, adventurous friend and someone you could always be yourself around without fear of judgement.
As someone who embraced all kinds of adventure: climbing mountains, cycling long distance, paddle boarding, he had become an avid runner in recent years. On December 26th, I will run a half marathon in his name to support his family’s chosen charity, kidney cancer. As cruel as Gabe’s passing is, I’d like to use this as an opportunity to celebrate a man who made the most of his time on this planet. And I know that is exactly what he would want us to be doing.
Rest in peace my good friend.
Alex
Will you join me in supporting the Winship Cancer Institute?
As you might know Gabe's family supports Winship Cancer Institute's transformative impact on patients and families in their community, and well beyond. They believe strongly in supporting the world-leading research and innovative care programs Winship provides.
Gabe relied heavily on the institute over the last twelve months and by running for them I am raising funds to support those programs. Thank you for you support the critical work Winship does in Gabe's name.
