Rug and Textile Appreciation Morning: Good, Better, Best

Ben Evans, Detlef Maltzhan, Mary Jo Otsea, Wendel Swan

What sets apart a great rug from a good one? Why do some rugs fetch six figures, while others will not sell at any price? This program combines connoisseurship with insightful commentary, as a panel of worldwide experts comment on the aesthetic qualities of a selection of rugs and carpets.

Find out if your tastes are contrarian or conventional, gain an insight into what distinguishes good from great, and imagine how your rugs might fare under the panel's scrutiny. This participatory program has something for every level of knowledge and experience.

Panelists

Ben Evans, editor, Hali Publications

Detlef Maltzhan, managing director and proprietor, Rippon Boswell & Co.

Mary Jo Otsea, former worldwide director of rugs and carpets, Sotheby’s

Wendel Swan, museum trustee and collector (moderator)
