Virtual Film Club: RiverBlue

Lori Kartchner, curator of education, and Marissa Jablonski, The Fresh Water Collaborative of Wisconsin

Join our museum community online for a discussion of the film RiverBlue, a documentary following river conservationist Mark Angelo as he uncovers and documents the extensive pollution impact of the global fashion industry. The conversation will be led by our curator of education Lori Kartchner and special guest, Dr. Marissa Jablonski of the Fresh Water Collaborative of Wisconsin. We hope to see you there!

About the Film

The fashion industry, from denim to leather to fast fashion, is widely considered one of the world’s most polluting industries. RiverBlue is a feature-length documentary film that chronicles an unprecedented three-year, around-the-world river journey by paddler and conservationist Mark Angelo, during which he uncovered and documented the extensive pollution impacts of the global fashion industry. (Paddle Productions, 2017, 95 minutes.)

About the Special Guest:

Dr. Marissa Jablonski is a development engineer and educator who consults with groups worldwide that are wrestling with complex concerns related to water, sustainability, and culture. Between 2009-2015 Dr. Jablonski designed an internationally recognized project that continues to engage with informal dye industries in rural India to affordably clean their wastewater. Today, she leads the Fresh Water Collaborative of Wisconsin.
