Rug and Textile Appreciation Morning: Silk Stories

Photographer and museum docent Pamela Kaplan will introduce the history of silk production and share new work from her long-term project and passion “Silk Stories.” In addition, Kaplan will discuss her experience raising silkworms in Washington, D.C., providing tips on the practical aspects of small-scale urban sericulture.

About Silk Stories

Pamela Kaplan created “Silk Stories” to offer a behind-the-scenes view into silk production in India and around the world. The project documents the changing lives of silk farmers and textile producers through photographs, videos, interviews and more.

About Pamela Kaplan

Pamela Kaplan is a graduate of GW’s Corcoran School of the Arts and Design with a master’s degree in new media photojournalism. Kaplan has been a docent with the museum for four years after retiring from IBM Corporation.
