GW Culture Buffs: The Art of Marcel Duchamp (Online)

Location

Online

Event Description

Lisa Lipinski

Join fellow alumni for our first virtual GW Culture Buffs event featuring a talk by Dr. Lisa Lipinski, Assistant Professor of Art History, surrounding the art work of Marcel Duchamp.

The French artist Marcel Duchamp (1887-1968) is considered to be one of the most important artists of the 20th century, leaving his mark on contemporary art and the institution of art itself as he sought “to put art back in the service of the mind.” Duchamp focused the fundamental question of what art is, as well as the role of the art spectator, setting him apart from those who had focused on how art is made and on the genius of the artist.

The talk, followed by a Q+A session, will leave you with much more knowledge and appreciation of Duchamp’s enigmatic works, like the readymades and The Nude Descending the Staircase.

This event is free and open to all GW and Corcoran alumni. Please register your attendance in advance.
