Graduate Scholarships: How to Apply

The AIEF program now offers competitive graduate scholarships* to eligible American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian students pursuing a Masters or Doctoral degree.**

Applications submitted by eligible graduate students each spring are reviewed by members of the Scholarship Committee, who award the competitive grants. We will provide $1,000 to $2,000 per scholarship for graduate students who are attending or have been accepted to an accredited graduate school. The scholarship is paid directly to each recipient’s college or university.

Students must be enrolled between 6-18 credit hours so that the scholarship is accessible to both part-time and full-time graduate students. The level of scholarship funding is dependent on the number of hours enrolled in graduate studies. Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or above in order to be eligible for the scholarship. Online courses and ABD (all but dissertation) are not applicable for the graduate scholarship. All American Indian/Alaska Native students who are enrolled in their tribe, or have a parent who is an enrolled member are eligible.

Scholarship Application Process

  1. Complete the Graduate Scholarship Application
  2. Provide documentation of tribal enrollment for yourself or a parent.
  3. Provide transcripts.
  4. Enroll in an accredited technical school, college, or university as a full-time undergraduate.

All students who meet the above criteria are encouraged to apply for a Graduate Scholarship.

Please note, the deadline for the 2024-2025 scholarship applications is April 4th, 2024. For more information on scholarships in general, call 1-866-866-8642 (toll-free) or email aief@nativepartnership.org.

Awarded students will be notified by July 15th if they have been selected to receive a scholarship. Due to administrative costs, we do not notify non-awarded students.
