Why We Need Your Help
Lao-tzu once said "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step". Today we are asking you to join us on the journey of the fight against ALS. Nancy's Navigators, an ALS walk team that honors the memory of a hero to many, Nancy Laughlin. Nancy was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also more commonly know as Lou Gehrig's disease, in February of 2007. She passed away from this devastating disease on January 16, 2009. She was a constant inspiration during her battle with ALS, never letting the disease ruin her spirit. Her bravery and determination inspired our team to join the fight against ALS. We hope you will join us on this journey as we work to help everyone living with this disease.
Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of an ALS patient averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
This crippling disease can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease yet it still costs loved ones an average of $400,000 a year to provide the care ALS patients need. Help make a difference and donate or join a walk today.
