Why We Need Your Help

Often referred to as Lou Gehrig's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.  ALS slowly robs the body of its ability to speak, swallow, walk, grasp objects, move, breathe.  The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.

Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with ALS and someone passes away.  This crippling disease can strike anyone. There is not yet a cure or treatment that halts ALS.  Scientists have made progress in understanding what causes ALS, but their work is not yet done.

The estimated out of pocket cost for caring for a person with ALS is $250,000.  Only three drugs are currently approved by the US FDA to treat ALS.
