As many of you know my husband Joe was diagnosed with ALS in October of 2017 and lost his fight on August 26, 2019.
Many people are unaware that veterans are twice as likely to be diagnosed with this devastating disease. Joe was a veteran who proudly served his country.
My family and friends will be walking again this year on November 4, 2023 in memory of Joe and to raise money for this horrible disease. This is our 6th year participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS and we are very excited to be walking again in Charleston, SC. I thank you in advance for helping our team to try and reach our Walk to Defeat ALS(R) fundraising goal! Everyone has been so generous every year in helping us with our fundraising. We are calling on our family and friends again this year to raise money for research to cure ALS. Joe never gave up hope that a cure would be found.
The past six years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families. There are new medications that the FDA will be voting on for approval on September 29th. The hope is this will be approved and quickly made available to the ALS community. WE CAN'T STOP NOW!
Please consider joining us in Charleston,SC or sponsoring me as I walk with my team. You can also walk in your own hometown and still be part of our team. With your help, I will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
Why I Need Your Help
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages two to five years from the time of diagnosis.
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. For some reason veterans seem to be twice as likely to be diagnosed with ALS.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, though support is bringing researchers closer to an answer. In the meantime it costs an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need. Join the movement to bring help and hope today!
