I believe this our 9th year supporting this amazing cause. It all started in honor of the man, the myth, the legend - Frankie Papa. He unfortunateIy lost his battle with ALS in 2020, but his fight was beyond admirable. The average life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2-5 years. Frank fought for many more years than that, at least 14. And through all of it, he kept is positive attitude and sense of humor. I don't say that because it seems like what I should say that, I say it because it was actually true. Those who were closest to him could not fathom how he embraced life with such positivity amidst the something so devastating. He was lifting those up around him as he fought such a terrible disease. Donating his body to ALS research after he passed shows what a selfless and amazing individual he was and how he would do absolutely anything to continue this fight for others.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure.
That’s why we are fundraising again this year. We want to continue to raise awareness and funds to help support those who are diagnosed with ALS in honor of my amazing father, Frank. We could not have managed all of those difficult years without the help and support of the ALS Association - Western PA Chapter. We hope our fundraising will continue to help them obtain the resources needed to provide the support for those courageously fighting ALS, as well as their loved ones that face so much adversity along with them.
In addition to resources, we need a CURE.
The past two years have brought incredible advancements in ALS research, expanded access to care for people living with ALS, and enabled legislation that impacts the quality of life of people with ALS and their families. But, we can’t stop now. The key to a cure begins with you.
Please consider joining me in fundraising, or sponsoring me. We are hosting an event on 7/13 to support the Walk to Defeat ALS, as we are unsure if we will be able to attend the actual walk this year. With your help, we will be able to make a difference in the lives of people affected by this disease.
We are forever in awe of the generosity and support that we receive from our family, friends, and the community. Thank you for standing with us for almost a decade in this fight against ALS, as we continue to do the work that Frankie would want to help others in need.
