Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity

Chicago

Habitat for Humanity Chicago is proud to work together with Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity and the other seven affiliates in the Chicagoland area to address the crisis of critical housing needs afflicting over 400,000 people in the Chicago area. Habitat for Humanity Chicago builds in the City of Chicago where over 259,000 people have a critical housing need. Our vision is for a City of Chicago where everyone has a simple, decent place to live, and we believe that through collaboration with community members, volunteers, and families, we can come closer to realizing that goal. Habitat for Humanity Chicago builds new homes, repairs existing homes, and empowers families to become confident homeowners. We are currently focusing our work in the 34rd Ward in the West Pullman neighborhood. This focus is to increase our impact in one neighborhood and join with community members to live out their vision. We have multiple ways in which to volunteer committees, office support, events, and building. Please join us to learn more about Habitat for Humanity Chicago and how you can make a difference for our future homeowners.

Chicago South Suburbs

Habitat for Humanity Chicago South Suburbs (HFHCSS) is one of eight Habitat for Humanity International affiliates in the Chicagoland area. The core mission of HFHCSS is to provide the opportunity for affordable home ownership to hard working, low-income families. The housing crisis and weak economy precipitated an awareness that building new houses was not enough – we needed to be involved in building communities. The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative (NRI) became our first level of response and was based on an assessment of an individual community’s all-around needs. The result was buying foreclosed properties and rehabbing them for sale to qualified partner families. In addition, HFHCSS offered assistance to income-challenged homeowners residing in the same neighborhoods. Services included minor exterior repairs and painting and weatherization to help reduce energy bills.

DuPage

DuPage Habitat for Humanity (DHFH) is one of eight Habitat for Humanity International affiliates in the Chicagoland area. DHFH serves DuPage County, and partners with the community to help limited-income families achieve the dream of homeownership. DHFH homes are largely constructed by volunteers and are sold to qualifying families at no profit to DHFH and at a zero percent interest rate. Since 1995, DHFH has partnered with the community to build and sell homes to nearly 60 families in DuPage County. In 2012, we launched Building Stronger Tomorrows, an initiative which includes the construction or rehabilitation of 16 homes and the launch of our ReStore. The heart of this initiative is the development of 12 sustainable townhomes in Glen Ellyn, in a neighborhood we are calling Prairie Green. Construction is underway now. DHFH volunteers help with everything from answering phones to hanging drywall, from graphic design to real estate acquisition. Whether an individual or a group, seeking a one-time experience or regular commitment, we have a volunteer opportunity that is right for you. We offer monthly orientation sessions for new volunteers.

McHenry County

Habitat for Humanity of McHenry County (HFHMC) is one of eight Habitat for Humanity International affiliates in the Chicagoland area. We strive both to change the systems that lead to poverty housing and build communities where everyone can afford to live. The sad fact is that the need for decent, affordable housing is far greater than any single organization can meet. That is why HFHMC works with partners throughout the community including businesses, non-profits, government entities, civic organizations, and the faith community. We enthusiastically share Habitat for Humanity International’s ultimate goal of putting shelter on the hearts and minds of people in such a powerful way that poverty housing and homelessness become socially, politically, and religiously unacceptable in our region, nation and world.

Northern Fox Valley

Habitat for Humanity Northern Fox Valley (HFHNFV) is one of eight Habitat for Humanity International affiliates in the Chicagoland area. HFHNFV fulfills Habitat’s mission in the northwest suburban region of the Chicagoland area. Our current focus is existing foreclosed and abandoned houses that are devaluing our neighborhoods into safe, decent and affordable homes for our partner families. We also have repaired on an annual basis approximately 30 homes in our “Brush with Kindness” program. Individuals, civic groups, faith based groups and corporations are the backbone of our volunteer workforce. We will work with your team to customize a build day into a team building experience. Our ReStore is located at 800 North State Street (Route 31) in Elgin. ReStore volunteers assist us by receiving donations of property, stock shelves and assist customers.
