Many affiliates in Chicagoland have launched individual Neighborhood Revitalization Initiatives (NRI) in response to the housing crisis in the Chicago area. In light of the current crisis, the affiliates in the region have purchased many more vacant foreclosed homes. It is a significantly more cost efficient way of serving more families.

This type of renovation enables stabilization and rejuvenation in some of the area’s most fragile neighborhoods.

The affiliates participating in the NRI program in Chicagoland along with the local community organizations and municipalities will decide on the work to be carried out locally, including:

• New home construction
• Rehabilitation of homes
• Home repair
• Weatherization
• Neighborhood clean-up
• Homeowner education
